What makes Door-Aid unique in a field of a dozen similar devices?

In most applications the Door-Aid's actuator arm is unattached to the door itself. As a result, the Door-Aid will not interfere with the normal function of the door or increase the force required to manually open the door. In the case of a power failure the Door-Aid will not make it harder for a physically challenged person to exit the building through the door. This is not the case for competitor devices which have the actuator arm attached to the gearbox.

The Door-Aid is an "on demand" device that only operates when needed. In many installations the Door-Aid only cycles less than 5-10% of the times the door is opened. Most competitor devices cycle every time the door is opened, resulting in much higher usage and wear.

The Door-Aid uses the existing door closer, whereas most competitor models provide a special door closer. If such a competitor device fails, the device remains out of service until replacement parts can be obtained and installed. Most standard commercial door closers are compatible with the Door-Aid, so if the door closer fails it can be replaced locally. The door will remain usable without the Door-Aid until a repair is made.

Back to FAQ's

Is the Door-Aid easy to install?

Yes. Most standard commercial doors can be fitted with a Door-Aid in less then two hours with commonly used tools. The versatility of the Door-Aid due to its non-handed vertical configuration makes even unusual applications easy.

Back to FAQ's

Will the Door-Aid work on every commercial door?

The Door-Aid will work on almost all hinge style applications.

Back to FAQ's

Is Door-Aid handed?

No. The Door-Aid is designed to operate on either side of the door hinge side of the frame. Additionally, the Door-Aid may be installed in an inverted fashion when required by lack of door frame clearance or if header room is not available.

Back to FAQ's

In a retrofit application, can the existing door closer still be used when a Door-Aid is installed?

Yes. It is preferable, however, that the existing closer used be equipped with a "back check" valve adjustment. Normally we expect closers to have between six and fifteen pounds of back-check pressure.

Back to FAQ's

Can the Door-Aid be used to pull a door open?

Yes. The installation of an optional "Z" bracket on a door will allow the Door-Aid to pull a door inward, while maintaining the "on demand" feature

Back to FAQ's.

Will the Door-Aid's roller wheel harm the finish or integrity of the door?

The rubber ball bearing roller wheel has shown no tendency to mar either a painted finish or an anodized surface. It works with glass surfaces as well. Some noncommercial painted finishes, however, may show eventual wear.

Back to FAQ's

Must the Door-Aid actuator arm be 30 inches in length?

No. When requested, we have cut the arm down to 15 inches, drilled and tapped for the roller bolt and installed the actuator arm with no long-term ill effects to the door or motor.

Back to FAQ's

Can two or more Door-Aids be used simultaneously?

Yes. The timing of each unit should be coordinated for best results.

Back to FAQ's

Can the Door-Aid work be used on doors with electric lock strikes, magnetic locks, proximity detectors and other such devices?

Yes. There is an optional retrofit circuit board (DA1100) which allows for these additional functions. The DA1100 has a variable delay circuit and is capable of switching on and off three separate devices prior to the Door-Aid opening the door.

Back to FAQ's

Does Door-Aid have safety features designed to protect the user?

Yes. Door-Aid meets ANSI code #156.19 low energy power assist door opener requirements.

Back to FAQ's

Can Door-Aid be "hard wired"?

Yes. In circumstances where controls should not be wireless, wire connections to the control board are straightforward and simple. Sometimes vandalism, building structure and other factors makes this method preferable, although the standard wireless method is viable in most cases.

Back to FAQ's

What does a complete Door-Aid package consist of?

The Door-Aid package consists of one Door-Aid unit with an RF receiver mounted inside. Also included are mounting hardware, one actuator arm with a roller wheel, a mounting bracket, an installation manual and one double sided handicap decal. Control buttons and sensors of various types are optional.

Back to FAQ's

Are colors other than dark bronze or silver available?

Yes. Custom colors for the Door-Aid are available at extra cost. Also, the cover, chassis, mounting plate and actuator arm can be custom ordered. Price varies with finish.

Back to FAQ's

Where should the remote control buttons be mounted?

No one location is always right. The physically challenged user's needs should be the primary consideration, but several location alternatives should be considered before installation. Commonly used locations are on a wall, a support structure, a door frame or a free standing post. The height requirement, however, is 42 inches from the floor surface to the center of the button.

What is the product warranty?

Door-Aid's limited warranty covers all components against defects in workmanship for one full year. Should any component fail, please return with an explanation of defect. Unless the returned component has been subjected to abuse, improper handling or improper operation, we will promptly replace the component at no charge. Please see the written Warranty.
